    Habitat is a place in which an organism lives. It fulfills all the requirements of an organism that are essential for the survival. Habitats are of different types. A land based habitat is known as terrestrial habitat like forest, mountain and grassland. A water based habitat is known as aquatic habitat like pond, river, lake, oceans and seas. Different kinds of habitats offer different environmental conditions. So to live in a particular habitat, an animal or a plant needs to be well adapted to suit that habitat. In this way different habitats force the organisms to adapt differently and thus new kind of species evolved. Wings of a bird are an adaptation to fly in the air, fins of a fish are an adaptation to swim in the water and spines of cactus plant is an adaptation to live in desert.
