Take 20 mL dilute hydrochloric acid in a conical flask. Add 2?3 drops of phenolphthalein indicator (colourless) to it. Gently shake the flask and start adding drop by drop a dilute solution of sodium hydroxide with the help of a dropper. Shake the flask gently. Continue adding sodium hydroxide till the solution in the flask becomes light pink. At this point the solution is neutral. This can be tested because at this point if a drop of hydrochloric acid is added, the solution will become colourless again.
