A clock strikes 12 taking 48s. In order to strike 3 at the same rate, the time taken is

    A)  24 s

    B)  12 s

    C)  \[8\frac{8}{11}\,s\]

    D)  \[8\frac{2}{11}\,s\]

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

There are 11 intervals when the clock strikes 12. Time taken for 11 intervals = 48 s. \[\therefore \] Time taken for 1 interval \[=\left( \frac{48}{11} \right)s\] In order to strike 3, there are 2 intervals, for which the time taken \[=\left( \frac{48}{11}\times 2 \right)s=8\frac{8}{11}s.\]
