  • question_answer
A solid metallic sphere of radius 3 decimetres is melted to form a circular sheet of 1 milimetre thickness. The diameter of the sheet so formed is

    A) 26 m

    B) 24 m

    C) 12 m

    D) 6 m

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    Volume of solid sphere \[=\frac{4}{3}\pi {{r}^{3}}=\frac{4}{3}\pi {{(0.3)}^{3}}\] cubic metre If the radius of the circular sheet be R, then Volume of the sheet \[=\pi {{R}^{2}}\times 0.001\] \[\therefore \]      \[\pi {{R}^{2}}\times 0.001\]             \[=\frac{4}{3}\pi {{(0.3)}^{3}}\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[{{R}^{2}}=\frac{4}{3}\times \frac{0.027}{0.001}=36\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[R=\sqrt{36}=6\,m\] \[\therefore \]      Diameter \[=2R=12\,m\]
