If the 4th term of an arithmetic progression is 14 and 12th term is 70. Then, the first term is

    A) \[-10\]

    B) \[-7\]

    C) 7

    D) 10

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    Let the first term = a and common difference = d \[\therefore \]      \[a+3d=14\]                              ...(i) And      \[a+11d=70~\]                         ...(ii) On solving Eqs. (i) and (ii), we get \[d=7\] and \[a=-\,7\] \[\therefore \]      First term \[~=-\,7\]
