    Solution :

    Let the age of \[X=x\text{ }yr\] and age of \[Y=y\text{ }yr\] \[\therefore \]      \[(x-3)=2(y-3)\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x-3=2y-6\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x-2y=-\,3\]                              ?(i) and       \[x+7+y+7=83\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x+y=69\]                                ?(ii) On solving Eqs. (i) and (ii), we get \[x=45,\] \[y=24\]
