  • question_answer
Two trains travel in the same direction at 50 km/h and 32 km/h respectively. A man in the slower train observes that 15 s elapse before the faster train completely passes him. What is the length of the faster train?

    A) 75 m

    B) 125 m

    C) 150 m

    D) \[\frac{625}{3}\,m\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

    Let x be the length of faster train. \[\because \]       \[\text{Time=}\frac{\text{Distance}}{\text{Speed}}\] \[\therefore \]      \[\frac{15}{3600}=\frac{x}{50-32}\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x=\frac{15\times 18}{3600}\]  \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x=\frac{3}{40}\,km=\frac{3}{40}\times 1000=75\,m\]
