The average of 8 numbers is 20. The average of first two number is \[15\frac{1}{2}\] and that of the next three is \[21\frac{1}{3}\] If the sixth be less than the seventh and eight numbers by 4 and 7 respectively, then the eighth number is

    A) 18

    B) 22

    C) 25

    D) 27

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    Total of 8 numbers \[=8\times 20\]     \[=160\] Total of fast 2 numbers \[=\frac{31}{2}\times 2=31\] Total of next 3 numbers \[=\frac{64}{3}\times 3=64\] Let the 8th number be x, then Sixth number will be \[x-7\] and seventh number will \[x-3.\] \[\therefore \]      \[31+64+x+x-7+x-3=160\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[3x=160-31-64+10\]             \[=75\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x=25\]\
