  • question_answer
A bag contains Rs. 90 in coins of denominations of 50 paise, 25 paise and 10 paise. If coins of 50 paise, 25 paise and 10 paise are in ratio 2:3:5, then the number of 25 paise coins in the bag is

    A) 80

    B) 120

    C) 100

    D) 135

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    Let the number of coins of 50 paise, 25 paise and 10 paise are 2x, 3x and 5x respectively. \[\therefore \] Value of 50 paise coins \[=\frac{2x}{2}=Rs.\,x\] and value of 25 paise coins \[=Rs.\frac{3x}{2}\] and value of 10 paise coins \[=Rs.\frac{5x}{10}=Rs.\frac{x}{2}\] \[\therefore \]      \[x+\frac{3x}{4}+\frac{x}{2}=90\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[4x+3x+2x=360\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x=40\] \[\therefore \] Number of 25 paise coins \[=3\times 40=120\]
