The difference between the simple interest and the compound interest (compounded annually) at the rate of 12% per annum on Rs. 5000 for 2 yr will be

    A) Rs. 17.50

    B) Rs. 36

    C) Rs. 45

    D) Rs. 72

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

We know that the difference between the SI and CI at the rate of r% per annum on Rs. P for 2 yr will be \[{{\left( \frac{r}{100} \right)}^{2}}\] Here,     \[r=12%\] and \[P=\text{Rs}.\,5000\] \[\therefore \] Required difference \[=5000{{\left( \frac{12}{100} \right)}^{2}}\]             \[=5000\times 0.144=Rs.\,72\]
