The age of a mother, before two years, was eight times the age of there daughter. After one year, mother's age will be five times the daughter's age. After how many years from now, the mother's age will become three times the daughter's age?

    A) 6 yr

    B) 8 yr

    C) 10 yr

    D) 12 yr

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Let present age of mother and daughter be x and y. 2 yr ago, \[x-2=8(y-2)\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x-8y=-14\]                               ?(i) 1 yr after, \[x+1=5(y+1)\]          \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x-5y=4\]                                 ?(ii) On solving Eqs. (i) and (ii), we get \[y=6\,yr\] and \[x=34\,yr\] Let after z yr mother will be three time of her daughter. \[\therefore \]      \[34+z=3(6+z)\]             \[z=8\,yr\]
