  • question_answer
The students in three classes are in each class in the ratio 2 : 3 : 5. If 40 students are increased in each class the ratio changes to 4 : 5 : 7. Originally the total number of student was

    A) 100

    B) 180

    C) 200

    D) 400

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

    Let the number of student in three classes be 2x, 3x and 5x respectively. Due to increase of 40 students in each class we have             \[\frac{2x+40}{3x+40}=\frac{4}{5}\]    \[\Rightarrow \]   \[10x+200=12x+160\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[2x=40\] \[\Rightarrow \]   \[x=20\] \[\therefore \] Total number of students initially             \[=2x+3x+5x=10x\]             \[=200\]
