     Permanent hardness of water is caused by magnesium sulphate and calcium sulphate. Calcium and magnesium bicarbonate causes the temporary hardness of water. The temporary hardness of water can be removed by boiling water. Permanent hardness of water can be removed by adding sodium carbonate in water. It converts soluble calcium and magnesium ions into insoluble calcium and magnesium carbonate.
