For a positive integer n, define d[n) = the number of positive divisors of n. what is the value of \[d(d(d(12)))\]?

    A) 1

    B) 2

    C) 4

    D) None of the above

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

    \[d\left( n \right)\] = no of positive divisors of n. Now \[d\left( d\left( d\left( 12 \right) \right) \right)\] No. of divisors of \[12={{2}^{2+1}}\times {{3}^{1+1}}\] \[=3\times 2=6\]   \[\therefore \,\,\,\,d(d(6))\] No. of divisors of \[6={{2}^{1+1}}\times {{3}^{1+1}}\] \[=\,\,\,\,2\times 2=4\,\,\,\therefore \,\,d(4)\] Now no. of divisors of \[4={{2}^{2+1}}=\]
