  • question_answer
A hollow cylinder of copper of height 3 cm is melted to cast a solid cylinder of height 9 cm. If the outer and inner radii of the hollow cylinder are 2 cm and 1 cm respectively. Compute the diameter of the solid cylinder.

    A) \[10\,cm\]

    B) \[15\,cm\]

    C) \[18\,cm\]

    D) \[20\,cm\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

    According to question Volume of solid cylinder = Volume of hollow cylinder \[\pi {{R}^{2}}H=\pi h\,\left( r_{1}^{2}-r_{2}^{2} \right)\] Radius \[{{R}^{2}}=\frac{\pi \times 300\left( {{2}^{2}}-{{1}^{1}} \right)}{\pi \times 9}\] \[{{R}^{2}}=\frac{300\times 3}{9},\,\,R=\,10\,cm\] \[\therefore \]  Diameter of solid cylinder = 2R \[=\,\,2\times 10=\]
