The weight of a cubic metre of a metal is 480 kg. It is melted and cast into a square rod whose length is 4 metres. A solid cube is taken out from one end of the rod. Find the weight of solid cube.

    A) 45 kg

    B) 50 kg

    C) 55 kg

    D) 60 kg

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

     \[1\text{ }{{m}^{3}}=480\text{ }kg\] Let the side of the square rod = a Volume of the square rod \[={{a}^{2}}\times l\] \[{{a}^{2}}\times 4m=1{{m}^{3}}\Rightarrow {{a}^{2}}=\frac{1}{4}{{m}^{2}}\Rightarrow a=\frac{1}{2}m\] \[\therefore \]   Volume of solid cube \[=\,\,\,\frac{1}{2}\times \frac{1}{2}\times \frac{1}{2}=\frac{1}{8}\,\,\,{{m}^{3}}\] Now,  \[1{{m}^{3}}=480kg\] \[\therefore \,\,\,\,\,\frac{1}{8}\,{{m}^{3}}=\frac{480}{8}=60\,kg\] \[\therefore \] Weight of the solid cube \[=\,\,\,\mathbf{60}\,\mathbf{kg}\]
