Find at what time between 2 and 3 O'clock will the two hands of a clock be in the same straight line, but not together,

    A)  \[43\frac{5}{11}\]min. past

    B)  \[43\frac{8}{11}\]mm. past

    C)  \[5\frac{5}{10}\]min. past

    D)  \[43\frac{7}{11}\]min. past

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

At 2 O'clock, the hour hand is at 2 and the minute hand is at 12 i.e, the two hands are 10 minute space apart. To be in the straight line the minute hand has to cover 40 minute space. Now, 55 min. are gained in 60 min. 40 minute will be gained in \[\frac{60}{55}\times 40\] minutes \[=\,\,\,\frac{480}{11}=43\frac{7}{11}\] minutes The hands will make straight line at \[\underline{\mathbf{43}\frac{\mathbf{7}}{\mathbf{11}}\,\mathbf{minutes}\,\mathbf{past}\,\mathbf{2}}\]
