A shopkeeper marks his article 20% above the cost price and allows a discount of 15% on cash payment. If the selling price of that article on cash payment is Rs.2040 then what is the cost price of that article?

    A)  \[Rs.2,500\]

    B)  \[Rs.1,800\]

    C) \[Rs.2,400\]

    D)  \[Rs.2,000\]

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

     Let the cost price of article is Rs. x \[\therefore \]  Marked price \[=x\times \frac{120}{100}=Rs.\frac{6x}{5}\] Discount \[=\frac{6x}{5}\times \frac{15}{100}=\frac{9x}{50}\] \[\therefore \]  Selling price \[=\frac{6x}{5}-\frac{9x}{50}\]             \[=\,\,\,\frac{60x-9x}{50}=\frac{51x}{50}\]             \[\therefore \,\,\,\,\frac{51x}{50}\,\,=\,\,Rs.\,2,040\]             \[51x=Rs.\,2,040\times 50\]             \[x=\frac{2040\times 50}{51}=Rs.\,2,000\] Cost price of the article = Rs. 2,000
