A boat travels upstream from P and Q and downstream from Q to P in 3 hours. If the speed of the boat in still water is 9 km/hr and the speed of the current is 3 tan/hr, then what is the distance from P to Q?

    A) \[12\,\,km\]

    B) \[16\,\,km\]

    C) \[14\,\,km\]

    D)        \[8\,\,km\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Speed of the boat along the current \[=9+3=12\] km/hr. and speed of the boat against the current \[=9-3=6\] km/hr. Let the distance from \[P\] to \[Q\] be \[x\]km. then \[\frac{x}{12}+\frac{x}{6}=3\] or,        \[x+2x=36\] or,\[x=\frac{36}{3}=12\]km
