This perception is important because it makes people question the very foundations of what they know to be true as it makes people think about how disconnected they are from the real world. If we want a computer simulation to process a human's mind down to a perfect detail and for each person in the simulation to truly be their own cognitive person then we need a Substrate-Independent mind.
