Spirogyra filaments increase in length due to division in:

    A) basal cell

    B)  middle cells

    C)  rhizoidal

    D)  all green cells

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Spirogyra is a filamentous, unbranched green algae. It consists of cylindrical            green cells arranged one above the other. The length of Spirogyra filament increases as a result of transvers divisions in all the green cells. Colourless portion only helps in the attachment of the filament to the substratum.
