    Anaerobic bacteria do not require the presence of oxygen for respiration. The mesosomes are supposed to be analogous to the mitochondria of   eukaryotes and both are involved in the process of aerobic respiration. Mesosomes occur in aerobic bacteria (absent in anaerobic bacteria)
