AFMC AFMC Solved Paper-2001

  • question_answer
Benzene does not undergo addition reaction easily because :

    A) it has six hydrogen atoms

    B) it has a cyclic structure

    C) double bonds present in benzene are strong

    D) resonance stabilized system is to be  preserved

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Benzene is an aromatic compound. It is cyclic planar, conjugated system containing \[(4n+2)\pi {{e}^{-}}\]which are delocalised. Due to this delocalization of \[\pi {{e}^{-}}\] (resonance) benzene possess a high degree of stability and does not  readily undergo addition reaction.
