    Magnetic dipole moment is a:

    A) scalar quantity

    B) vector quantity

    C) constant

    D) none of these

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

A current carrying solenoid or a coil behaves like a bar magnet A bar magnet having north and south poles at its ends is a magnetic dipole. If i be the current, A the area, N the number of turns, then magnetic dipole moment \[\vec{M}=Ni\,\vec{A}.\]It is a vector quantity and its  direction is same as the direction of the area vector \[\vec{A}\]of the current loop. This direction is given by a curved straight right hard rule.
