AFMC AFMC Solved Paper-2004

  • question_answer
    Eddy currents are produced in:

    A) induction furnace

    B) electromagnetic brakes

    C) speedometers

    D) all of the above

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Eddy currents are induced currents set up in a conductor by changing magnetic field. The currents   produce   a   heating   effect corresponding to a loss of useful energy. Induction furance is used to seperate metal from their ores and to make some alloys. Heat produced due to eddy current melts the metal. Speedometer is a device attached with the drum of electric train, car etc., to measure the instantaneous speed of vehicle and is affected by eddy currents produced in it. While eddy currents are also produced in electric brakes. Hence, eddy currents are produced in all.
