    Hydraulic press is based on:

    A) Archimedes' principle

    B) Bernoulli's equation

    C) Pascal's law

    D) Reynold 's law

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Hydraulic press is used to compress soft materials like cotton, cloth etc. into compact bales. It is based on Pascal's law which states that the increase in pressure at one point of enclosed liquid at rest is transmitted equally to all other point of the liquid and also to the walls of the container provided the effect of gravity is neglected. Archimedes' principle states that for an object dipped partially or wholly in liquid, an upward thrust acts on it. While Bernoulli's effect gives the relation between the pressure in a steadily flowing liquid and its velocity. Reynold?s law is used to describe liquid flow.
