AFMC AFMC Solved Paper-2011

  • question_answer
If a shunt of \[\frac{1}{10}th\] of the coil resistance is applied to a moving coil galvanometer, its sensitivity becomes

    A) 10 fold

    B) \[\frac{1}{10}\] fold

    C) 11 fold

    D) \[\frac{1}{11}\] fold

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Sensitivity of galvanometer is directly proportional to the current through it.                 When a shunt resistance S = (G /10) is applied  to galvanometer of resistance G, then current through galvanometer, \[{{I}_{g}}\] can be written as \[{{I}_{g}}G=(I-{{I}_{g}})S\] \[=(I-{{I}_{g}})G/10\] or        \[{{I}_{g}}=\frac{(I-{{I}_{g}})}{10}\]              or        \[{{I}_{g}}=\left( 1+\frac{1}{10} \right)=\frac{I}{10}\] \[\therefore \]      \[{{I}_{g}}=\frac{1}{11}r\]
