JEE Main & Advanced AIEEE Solved Paper-2002

  • question_answer
\[{{H}_{2}}\] gas is absorbed on the metal surface like tungsten. This follows ...... order reaction.     AIEEE  Solved  Paper-2002

    A) third

    B)                           second

    C)           zero

    D)           first

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Most of the reaction which takes place on the surface of heteogenous catalyst proceeds being independent of concentration. These reactions are zero order reactions. All those reaction whose rate is not affected by concentration or in which concentrations of the reactants do not change with time are called zero order reactions. For the given reaction, tungsten metal acts as a catalyst. At high pressure the metal surface gets saturated with \[{{H}_{2}}\] gas molecules. So, a further change in reaction conditions is unable to alter the amount of hydrogen on the surface of the catalyst making rate of the reaction independent of its concentration. So, it is a zero order reaction.
