JEE Main & Advanced AIEEE Solved Paper-2007

  • question_answer
The half-life period of a radioactive element X is same as the mean life time of another radioactive element Y. Initially, they have the same number of atoms. Then,       AIEEE  Solved  Paper-2007

    A)  X will decay faster than Y

    B)  Y will decay faster than X

    C)  Y and X have same decay rate initially

    D)  X and Y decay at same rate always

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

    The half-life for element X                 \[(0,\pi /2)\] where,\[(-\pi /2,\pi /2)\]is mean life of element Y. \[A=\left[ \begin{matrix}    5 & 5\alpha  & \alpha   \\    0 & \alpha  & 5\alpha   \\    0 & 0 & 5  \\ \end{matrix} \right]\]\[|{{A}^{2}}|=25,\] \[{{5}^{2}}\]       \[{{\lambda }_{Y}}>{{\lambda }_{X}}\] So, Y will decay faster than X.                                 (\[\frac{1}{2!}-\frac{1}{3!}+\frac{1}{4!}-....\]is decay constant)
