Which of the following induces dormancy?

    A)  Auxin

    B)         Cytokinin

    C)         Both (a) and (b)

    D)         Abscisic acid

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Abscisic acid is an inhibitory hormone present in buds, leaves, seeds etc. It induces senescence and abscission of leaves and dormancy in seeds and buds. IAA (Indole Acetic Acid) is a naturally occurring auxin hormone. It suppresses the growth of lateral buds and plays a key role in the stem elongation, binding of the shoot towards the light side.                         Cytokinins stimulate cells division and delay senescence by mobilizing foods from leaf parts.
