    The disease amoebiasis or amoebic dysentery is caused by a protozoan Entamoebahistolytica which is an endoparasite. E.histolytica is a monogenetic parasite of intestine i.e., its life completes within a host (human). It spreads through uncooked food, unhygenic food and faecal contamination etc. The symptoms ofamoebiasis include diarrhoea with loss of blood in stools, fever, nausea and vomitting. Drugs like metronidazole, diloxanidefuroate are useful.
