  • question_answer
The solubility in water of sulphates down the Be group is \[Be>Mg>Ca>Sr>Ba\]. This is due to

    A)  higher co-ordination number

    B)  high ionisation number

    C)  increasing in melting point

    D)  all of these.

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

In the alkaline earth metal group the lower metals have high heat of hydration than the larger ones due to the fact heat of hydration is higher for small sized highly charged cations. So solubility of sulphate of these metals decrease down the group.
