Growth of pollen tube towards embryo is:

    A)  geotropism

    B)  chemotaxis

    C)         phototaxis

    D)         thigmotaxis

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Pollen grains germinate through the pollen tubes, which come out from germ pores on the stigma due to absorption of water and outer exudates such as sugars, amino acids, proteins and peptides. The pollen tubes always migrate towards the embryo sac, it is most probably due to chemotactic attraction. It is caused in response to a chemical concentration gradient.
