    A)  Blue-green algae

    B)  Red algae

    C)  Diatoms

    D)  Brown algae

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Some branches of tap roots of Cycas become negatively geotropic i.e., they grow in upward direction and form dicotomously branched coral like masses, above the ground level. These are known as coralloid roots or corallorhiza. Anatomically, the internal structure of coralloid roots is similar to normal + ve geotropic roots except that coralloid roots, contain a zone of blue green algae Anabaena, Cycadacearum or Nostoc in the region of middle cortex. This is known as algal zone. Functionally caralloid roots help in the process of respiration.
