Chromosomes with equal arms are called:

    A)  metacentric

    B)  telocentric

    C)  acentric

    D)         polycentric

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

Chromosomes are of following types on the basis of position of centromere on them. (i) Metacentric: Centromere occur at the centre thus such type of chromosomes contain two equal arms. At anaphase stage of cell division these chromosomes are looked like V  shaped. (ii) Submetacentric: Centromere is sub median, they look like L shaped during anaphase. (iii) Acrocentric: Centromere is sub-terminal, they look like J shaped during anaphase. (iv) Telocentric: Terminal centromere they look like T shaped during anaphase. (v) Acentric: Chromosomes do not have centromere. They are of rare occurrence.
