    Glycolysis occur in:

    A)  mitochondria

    B)  chloroplast

    C)         parenchyma

    D)         sieve tube cell

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Glycolysis or Embden: Meyerhoff Paranas (EMP) pathway takes place in the cytoplasm of all living cells. It does not require the presence of oxygen. In glycolysis: (i) One glucose molecule (6C) is converted into 2 molecules of pyruvates (3C). (ii) 2 ATPs are used and 4 ATPs are formed. (iii) Two NADU + H+ are formed which yield 6 ATP molecules (3 ATP from each NADH + H+) via ETS. (iv) No intake of \[{{O}_{2}}\] or exhaling of \[C{{O}_{2}}\] takes place.
