Power of regeneration of sponges is due to:

    A)  theocytes

    B)  archaeocytes

    C)         amoebocytes

    D)         sclerocytes

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Archaeocytes (modified amoebocytes) are uninucleate, large amount of RNA containing, undifferentiated cells which carry out several functions. One of these functions is regeneration of sponges. Theocytes (modified amoebocytes) form reserved food granules. Amoebocytes are irregular in shape, which function as a wide variety of cells. Sclerocytes are specialized archaeocytes which secrete spicules.
