Which of the following statement is not correct regarding hydrogen atom?

    A)  It resembles with halogens in some properties

    B)  It resembles with alkali metals in some properties,

    C)  It cannot be placed in first group of periodic table

    D)  It is the lightest element

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

Hydrogen (atomic number 1) has properties similar to both alkali metals and halogens. Like alkali metal it has one electron in its outermost shell, so can easily lose electron to form a cation. It reacts with halogens like metals. Like halogens it can react with metals etc. Due to much resemblance with alkali metals it is placed in IA group of periodic table. Hydrogen is also the lightest clement (mass no. = 1)
