The colour of a star indicates its:

    A)  velocity

    B)                         temperature

    C)                         size

    D)         length

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Key Idea: As temperature of body increases, light waves of smaller wavelength are emitted. From Wiens displacement law, we have \[\Rightarrow \] where \[{{\lambda }_{m}}\] is maximum wavelength, T is absolute temperature. That means as the temperature of the black body rises, the maximum energy emitted shifts towards shorter wavelength. Hence, star appearing raddish has the lowest temperature and that appearing bluish has the highest temperature.
