Directions for: The questions consist of two statements each, printed as assertion and reason. While answering these questions you are required to choose any one of the following five responses A. If both the Assertion and the Reason are true and the Reason is a correct explanation of the Assertion. B. If both the Assertion and the Reason are true but the Reason is not a correct explanation of Assertion. C. If the Assertion is true but the Reason is false. D. If both the Assertion and the Reason are false. E. If Assertion is false but Reason is true.

Assertion: Anhydrous \[Ba{{O}_{2}}\] is used for preparing \[{{H}_{2}}{{O}_{2}}\]. Reason: Hydrated \[Ba{{O}_{2}}\] is not available.

    A)  A

    B)         B

    C)  C

    D)  D

    E) E

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

\[{{H}_{2}}{{O}_{2}}\] is prepared by the action of dil. \[{{H}_{2}}S{{O}_{4}}\] with hydrated barium peroxide \[(Ba{{O}_{2}}.8{{H}_{2}}O)\]. Anhydrous \[Ba{{O}_{2}}\] is not used because its reaction is slow and ceases after some time due to formation of protective layer of precipitated \[BaS{{O}_{4}}\] on it, which in case of solution of \[Ba{{O}_{2}}.8{{H}_{2}}O\]is filtered off frequently.
