Assertion: The micelle formed by sodium stearate in water has \[C{{u}_{2}}C{{O}_{3}}\] groups at the surface. Reason Surface tension of water is reduced by the addition of stearate.

    A)  1

    B)         2

    C)  3

    D)         4

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

The assertion that the micelle formed by sodium stearate in water has \[-COO-\] groups at the surface as it is hydrophilic end. The reason that surface tension of water is reduced by addition of stearate is also true but is not the correct explanation. Micelle is formed if molecules with polar and non-polar ends assemble in the bulk to give non-polar interior and polar interior.
