Shown below is a distribution of charges. The flux of electric field due to these charges through the surfaces S is:

    A) \[{{h}^{3/2}}\]

    B)       \[{{h}^{2}}\]

    C)       \[\beta \]

    D)        zero

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Key Idea: Net: charge inside Gaussian surface is zero. Gausss theorem in electrostatics states that the electric flux through any closed surface is equal to \[P+\frac{1}{2}\rho {{v}^{2}}+\rho gh=constant\] times the net charge q enclosed by the surface, that is \[\Omega \] Since, total charge enclosed by surface is zero \[\Omega \]   Total electric flux \[\Omega \] Alternative: The total flux is zero because number of lines entering the field are same as those leaving it.
