In the following questions, Statement of assertion (A) is followed by a statement of reason (R).       1. If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of the assertion, then mark. 2. If both assertion and reason are true but the reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion, then mark. 3. If assertion is true statement but reason is false, then mark. 4. If both assertion and reason are false statements then mark.

Assertion: The Coulomb force is the dominating force in the universe. Reason: The Coulomb force is weaker than the gravitational force.

    A)  1

    B)                                        2

    C)        3

    D)        4

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

The magnitude of the electrostatic force \[\left( \frac{1}{4\pi {{\varepsilon }_{0}}}\,\frac{{{q}_{1}}{{q}_{2}}}{{{r}^{2}}} \right)\]acting between the two charged particles is very large as compared to the gravitational force \[\left( \frac{G{{m}_{1}}{{m}_{2}}}{{{r}^{2}}} \right)\]acting between them. The electrostatic force between the two pistons is nearly \[{{10}^{36}}\] times the gravitational force between them. The electrostatic force between the two .electrons is nearly \[{{10}^{43}}\] times the gravitational force between them. The electrostatic force between a proton and an electron is nearly \[{{10}^{39}}\] times the gravitational force between them. But gravitational force is dominating in the universe.
