    The paramagnetic species is:

    A)  \[NiCl_{4}^{2-}\]

    B)  \[meso-[Co{{(N{{H}_{3}})}_{3}}C{{l}_{3}}]\]

    C)         \[cis-[PtC{{l}_{2}}{{(N{{H}_{3}})}_{2}}]\]

    D)         \[cis-{{K}_{2}}[PtC{{l}_{2}}B{{r}_{2}}]\]

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

The paramagnetic substances are those which are freely magnetized in same direction as magnetic field. All the species which have unpaired electrons or odd number of electrons are paramagnetic. \[S{{O}_{2}}\] is paramagnetic because as it has odd number of electron (s) (35electron(s)). \[C{{H}_{3}}COOH\] (30 electron(s)), \[{{C}_{6}}{{H}_{5}}COOH\] (38 electron(s), \[m-C{{H}_{3}}O{{C}_{6}}{{H}_{4}}COOH\] (72 electron (s)). All are diamagnetic as they have all paired i.e., even number of electrons.
