Intermolecular hydrogen bonding is strongest in:

    A)  methylamine

    B)  phenol

    C)         formaldehyde

    D)         methanol

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Hydrogen bond is found in compound in which H-atom is directly attached to highly electronegative   element   F,   O,   N. Formaldehyde show very less H-bonding as H atom is not attached to oxygen atom. \[M{{n}_{2}}{{O}_{7}}\] has stronger H-bond as compared to \[Mn{{O}_{2}}\] due to stearic hinderence of bulky \[M{{n}_{2}}{{O}_{7}}\] group in phenol. Thus methanol has strongest H bond.
