Which of the following are arranged in the decreasing order of dipole moment?

    A)  \[-16.1\text{ }kJ/mol\]

    B)  \[-602\text{ }kJ/mol\]

    C)  \[Cd(s)+2Ni{{(OH)}_{3}}(s)\xrightarrow{{}}CdO(s)\]

    D)  \[+2Ni{{(OH)}_{2}}(s)+{{H}_{2}}O(l)\]

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Dipole moment is defined as the product of the magnitude of charge on any one of the atoms and the distance between them. Dipole moment increase with the increase in electro negativity difference between the two atoms. Increasing order of electro negativity of halogens is \[p-C{{H}_{3}}O{{C}_{6}}{{H}_{4}}COOH\]. \[{{C}_{6}}{{H}_{5}}C{{H}_{2}}N{{H}_{2}}\]Decreasing order of dipole moment is: \[{{C}_{6}}{{H}_{5}}C{{H}_{2}}NHC{{H}_{3}}\]
