Direction for: In each of the following questions a statement of Assertion is given followed by a corresponding statement of Reason just below it. Of the statements mark the correct answer as

Assertion: Addition of silver ions to a mixture of aqueous sodium chloride and sodium bromide solution will first precipitate \[C{{H}_{3}}C\equiv CH\] rather than \[C{{H}_{3}}NH_{3}^{+}C{{l}^{-}}\]. Reason:  \[NaHS{{O}_{3}}\] of \[{{C}_{6}}{{H}_{5}}NHN{{H}_{2}}\] of \[N{{H}_{2}}OH\]

    A) If both assertion and reason are true and reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.

    B) If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.

    C) If assertion is true but reason is false.

    D) If both assertion and reason are false.

    Correct Answer: C

    Solution :

It is true that if we add \[A{{g}^{+}}\] ions to a mixture of aqueous \[NaCl\] and \[NaBr\] solution, \[AgBr\] will precipitate first. This is because \[{{K}_{sp}}\] of \[AgBr<{{K}_{sp}}\] of \[AgCl\].
