Which one of the following categories of organisms does not evolve oxygen during photosynthesis?

    A)  Red algae

    B)  Photosynthetic bacteria

    C)  \[{{C}_{4}}\] plants with Kranz anatomy

    D)  Blue-green algae

    Correct Answer: B

    Solution :

Red algae, \[{{C}_{4}}\] plants and blue-green algae use light energy for reducing \[C{{O}_{2}}\] to organic compounds and water \[({{H}_{2}}O)\] as a source of electron, hence, oxygen \[({{O}_{2}})\] is evolved but in case of photosynthetic bacteria, light energy is used for \[C{{O}_{2}}\] reduction but water is never used as source of electrone, hence, \[{{O}_{2}}\] is never evolved during bacterial photosynthesis.
