Direction for: In each of the following questions a statement of Assertion is given followed by a corresponding statement of Reason just below it. Of the statements mark the correct answer as

Assertion: Photoelectric effect demonstrates the wave nature of light. Reason: The number of photoelectrons is proportional to the frequency of light.

    A) If both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion.

    B) If both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.

    C) If assertion is true but reason is false.

    D) If both assertion and reason are false.

    Correct Answer: D

    Solution :

Einstein explained the phenomenon of photoelectric effect on the basis of Plancks quantum theory. According to which light travels in the form of small bundles or packets of energy called photons. Hence, photoelectric effect explains the particle nature of light. Also the photoelectric current or the rate of emission of photoelectrons is directly proportional to the intensity of the incident light.
