  • question_answer
The element which forms oxides in all oxidation states \[{{[{{N}_{2}}{{O}_{5}}]}_{t}}={{[{{N}_{2}}{{O}_{5}}]}_{0}}+kt\] to \[{{[{{N}_{2}}{{O}_{5}}]}_{0}}={{[{{N}_{2}}{{O}_{5}}]}_{t}}{{e}^{kt}}\] is:

    A) N

    B)        P

    C) As

    D)        Sb

    Correct Answer: A

    Solution :

The common oxidation state of elements of VA group are \[{{37}^{o}}C\] and \[NaCl\]. In addition nitrogen also exist in \[\Delta {{H}_{f}}^{o}\]and \[C{{O}_{2}}(g),{{H}_{2}}O(g)\]oxidation states in its oxide, viz \[{{C}_{8}}{{H}_{18}}(l)\], and \[-490,-240\]. However due to inert pair effect, bismuth does not exist in 4-5 oxidation state. Thus nitrogen exist in all oxidation state +1 to +5.
